MUSEUM OF HISTORY OF AVIATION AND COSMONAUTICS
School #62 Izhevsk

About museum
It was the first school space museum in the country.
School 62 of Izhevsk was opened in 1960. In 1961 Yuri Gagarin flew into space. At that time, the school successfully worked as a rocket building club under the leadership of Zezyanova Roza Alexandrovna, who later became the head of the Museum and led it for 40 years. The government of Udmurtia decided to deservedly give the name of the first cosmonaut of the planet to this school. And
in order to justify this title, the Director of the school, after consulting with the staff, decided to create a Museum of space exploration. The Collection of Museum items began. It was difficult to collect the exhibits, because they did not know where to find them, who to contact. And then the activists of the school wrote a letter to the editorial office of the newspaper `Pionerskaya Pravda`, and received a response with the contact details of the cosmonauts of the Star City. Students of the school wrote a letter to Yuri Gagarin, who in response sent two autographed photos and a letter. Later on, the creation of the Museum was helped by the entire first group of cosmonauts, the designer of spaceships Sergey Korolev and his mother. People responded and were happy to help with the museum. It was the first school space museum in the country.

Expositions
Udmurtia in space industry
October 4, 1957 there was the key event in the study of outer space. On this day, a small silver ball appeared in orbit. It was the first artificial Earth satellite in the history of mankind, which was launched from the range of the USSR Ministry of Defense, which later became known as the Baikonur cosmodrome. This was the beginning of the cosmic era of mankind. It is now known that in Izhevsk at the Prikamproekt Institute, drawings were made of one of the most important buildings of the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Udmurtia is inextricably linked with the history of space exploration. The factories of Udmurtia made an invaluable contribution to the development of astronautics: Izhevsk Motor Plant, now Axion Holding; Izhevsk Radio Plant; Votkinsk Engineering Plant.

You will learn more about the factories on tours in our museum.
Collaboration orbits
Right after the flight of Yuri Gagarin into space activist pupils wrote a congratulatory letter to Columbus Outer Space in Star City and the newspaper Pravda. This was the starting point of communication with the astronauts. Letters, autographs, souvenirs and much more made up a significant part of the museum's exhibits.
Zvezdochka - dog astronaut
On March 25, 1961, a dog named Zvezdochka was on Board of the fifth spacecraft launched into the Earth orbit. On the same day, the spacecraft landed in the Votkinsky district of Udmurtia on the border with the Perm region. It was found by Lev Okkelman, a pilot from Izhevsk.

Zvezdochka was the last astronaut dog to return safely to the Earth. After its landing, the final decision to fly the first man into space was made.

On the tour, you will learn the story of the landing of the dog Zvezdochka and the life of pilot L. K. Okkelman. The museum stores his personal belongings and documents that he granted to the museum.
